The quality of the
engine oil and the frequency of change are two of the most important factors in long engine life.
As lubricant technology
progresses it becomes possible that engine wear may no longer continue to be the major limiting factor in extended engine life.
LUBEGARD® Bio/Tech Engine Oil Protectant containing Liquid Wax Ester (LXE®) is the technology specifically formulated to
safely minimize friction and wear for today’s higher revving and hotter running engines.
LUBEGARD’S synthetic Liquid Wax Esters (LXE) and its derivatives are functional molecules made in reactors.
- Esters are well known for high temperature stability. The molecules created by reacting alcohols with organic acids derived from seed oils to create a molecule that is very difficult to degrade, even at high temperatures.
- Liquid Wax Esters have exceptional thermal stability, low-temperature properties, natural detergency and lubricity.
- The polar nature of the chemical bonds of the LXE molecule allow the esters to more readily adhere to metal surfaces to enhance the load carrying capacity of the oils they are added to.
- Esters are friendly to seal and gasket materials and do not harden or “swell’ seals.
The U.S. Department of Energy lists desirable performance parameters for motor oils that Liquid Wax Esters (LXE®) have, and are passed on to engine oils they are blended with.
- Low temperature fluidity results in improved ambient startup protection and contributes to extended engine, starter, alternator and battery life.
- Low volatility with resistance to evaporation for reduced oil consumption.
- High temperature oxidation resistance of the oil due to the superior thermal stability of the LXE molecule.
- Compatibility with all engine materials including elastomers, filter media, coatings and surface treatments.
- High lubricant film strength for high and low temperature wear protection.
- Freedom from deposit formation due to the natural detergency of the LXE molecule.
- Compatibility with other engine oils and additive packages has allowed the use of Bio-Tech with LXE in conventional and synthetic base engine oils.
- Extended drain intervals are possible due the oxidative stability the LXE imparts to both conventional and synthetic engine oils. This is in part due to the high temperature thermal stability of the LXE molecule because it prevents the formation of sludge and carbon deposits on critical engine parts from oil breakdown at high temperatures.
- Ambient startup protection is assured when using Bio/Tech Engine Supplement due to the LXE molecules polar nature which allow the esters to adhere to the metal surfaces until they are needed for startup protection.
The
polar nature of the LXE molecule is demonstrated by the examples of standard engine oils subjected to wear evaluation after
immersing test parts in oil with Bio/Tech Engine Protectant and test parts with engine oil only. The parts were allowed to drain
overnight and were subjected to wear testing with no additional oil. The parts treated with engine oil and Bio/Tech Engine
Protectant out-performed (less wear) the parts treated with engine oil only.
Engine oil flow removes 30-40% of the heat that is generated by engine friction and combustion.
- Low viscosity engine oils specified by OEM’s today may have problems with high oil consumption and engine wear.
- In smaller high output engines enough heat is generated to cause these lighter engine oils to quickly evaporate with the resulting increase in viscosity. Turbocharged engines have the most problems with oil film temperatures exceeding 450º F / 232º C in the turbo during operation.
- Bio/Tech Engine Protectant will allow the oil to maintain proper viscosity and lubricity while resisting thermal breakdown and oxidation.
- LXE® technology as used in Bio/Tech Engine Protectant is what gives engine oil the ability to reduce temperature by imparting enhanced thermal transference (flow of heat in a body to or from the external surroundings by conduction, convection, or radiation).
- The ester technology provides a long linear chain of carbon atoms that are surrounded by oxygen molecules. The oxygen atoms have a negative charge, which attracts the ester molecule to metal surfaces. When these LXE® molecules pick up the heat of the metal components, the attraction of the oxygen atoms moves the heat outward and directs it to areas (cooling system, block and heads) where it is readily discharged or released. This results in lower temperatures.
LUBEGARD BIO/TECH ENGINE PROTECTANT PERFORMS
For the last 20 years knowledgeable automotive care professionals have used LUBEGARD Bio/Tech Engine Protectant to enhance engine oils. In years past unscrupulous fly by night producers and marketers of additives for engine oils promoted low quality or ineffective petroleum products that often created more problems than they solved. Many of these products have been the target of legal action by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and can be viewed by going to the FTC internet web site (www.ftc.gov). LUBEGARD BIO/TECH Engine Protectant has never been the subject of legal action by the FTC. Our engine product performs as advertised or we would not be able to make this statement.
